High and Tight Haircut 2010

The term 'high and tight' as used with reference to hairstyles has its origins in the armed forces, where it is used in reference to the specific variety of the buzz cut hairstyle that members of the armed forces wear. True, many military forces in the world have stopped insisting on the high and tight haircut for all their (serving) members, but at the very least, most of the militaries in the world do expect people training with them to wear the high and tight haircut during their training courses, with many members who become accustomed to the hair and tight haircut during their training opting to keep them for the rest of their military lives and even beyond.

Don't get confused by the word 'high' on the phrase 'high and tight haircut' because in spite of being referred to as a 'high and tight hairstyle' this turns out to be one of the hairstyles that are defined by the shortness of hair worn; because the basic characteristic of the hair and tight haircut is that the wearer's hair is cropped very short indeed.

High and Tight Haircut 2010Close cropping aside, another defining feature of the high haircut is the pattern of clipping of the hair on all sides of the head (including at the back), with only the front part of the head, (what is referred to as the temple) being left with more hair, at least enough hair to be combed. The rationale behind this arrangement, where the sides of the head are cropped short, with only the temple being left with some hair is to ensure convenient accommodation of the military helmet, which would obviously be very uncomfortable to wear if the whole head was cropped closely.

High and Tight Haircut 2010 It is important to note that although the high haircut has its roots in the disciplined forces, it has over the years found widespread appeal among civilians, who love it for among other reasons, its low maintenance costs (both in terms of financial cost and time), and the distinguished look it confers to its wearers, especially the men who love the military machismo that the high and tight haircut is associated with.

It is worthy noting that when it is worn outside the military circles (where it has its cradle), the high and tight haircut gets referred by a variety of other names, the commonest of which is as the 'skin fade' hairstyle in the United States.

Although quite a simple hairstyle, and although it is itself a variant of the larger 'buzz cut hairstyles' family, the high and tight haircut is not altogether bereft of variations. Indeed, there are quite a good number of variations in the high and tight haircut, the most popular of these being the recon (which is defined by its rather pronounced boundaries on all sides and the fact there region of the head that is left with some hair is very small right on the temple), and the horseshoe flattop (which is the variety of the high and tight haircut described earlier, where all the sides of the head are closely cropped, but with a relatively huge region of the head surrounding the temple being left with some hair); resulting in what distinctively looks like a horseshoe on the head.

Trend Short Haircuts 2010

A short haircut does not imply one specific cut, because the lengths of different short haircuts vary. To make it simpler one can divide the lengths into three different categories, namely: super short, jaw length and chin length fashions. Short haircuts are versatile and with some added color you can sport a chic and feminine hairstyle.

Trend Short Haircuts 2010When contemplating a super short haircut you have to be very certain before you decide to take the leap. A great tip is to pull your hair back and envision what you would look like with shorter hair. Generally oval facial shapes carry this style very well, however if your face is too long, wide or round you should opt for a longer short haircut. A super short haircut is refreshingly manageable, a wash and go style if you will. These cuts are not for the faint of heart though, due to them being the shortest, but with ample self-confidence this style can be pulled off superbly. Layers in varying lengths add a hint of volume. You can have textured pixie bangs or leave them a bit longer and style them at any angle.

Trend Short Haircuts 2010A Jaw length short haircut is typically characterized by the fact that it's longer on the sides with layers and bangs. This cut will be perfect if you have fine hair, as it will make it look fuller with more volume. If you have a diamond face shape -- avoid this length, as it will accentuate the jaw line. This cut is so versatile; because you can have different side partings, curl your hair, add pieced strands, use a straightening iron and a whole lot more.

The chin length haircut is ideal for anyone and this is probably the most versatile short hairstyle. Lengths for this style vary and may be cut into layers, kept at one length or graduated. Bangs look superb and finish off the hairstyle with a feminine softness and they can be any length. Experiment with different looks, for instance: tucking your hair behind your ears with a sleek finish, using a curling iron to achieve romantic locks or by adding some hair accessories etc.

It is certainly a huge step for anyone to cut their long hair, thankfully we've evolved and new software can provide you with a preview of your new shorter style. If you like specific haircuts gather similar pictures and explain to your stylist what you want and ask for their advice, after all they studied cosmetology and are trained in this field. Make sure that the salon you choose has good references and you feel comfortable with your choice and stylist.

Taking care of your hair should be your first priority. Treat and moisturize your hair on a weekly basis and avoid using too much heat on your hair. These days you can achieve great styles with various techniques, but it's a lot easier to accomplish with an investment in some great quality styling tools. Short haircuts are making a comeback with a chic selection that is fashionable and versatile.
